Description of Department

With an aim to carve a student in Computer Science and allied domains, the department strives to:

  • Become a pioneering world-class Center of excellence in education and research through collaborative, consultative and participatory approaches
  • Nurture effective capabilities for the development of high quality technical and scientific manpower to meet the challenges of the knowledge era
  • Provide cost-effective Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-based solutions and value-added services to a variety of organisations and to meet the expectations of stakeholders
  • Foster learning and creative community that strives to continuously advance the frontiers of knowledge and promote the deployment and usage of ICT-based applications for betterment of society.

The curricula of programmes have been designed to cater to the ever changing needs and demands of IT industry. The focus is on holistic learning and empowering students to make significant contributions at all levels. The cafeteria system of electives gives a handful of choices for students to develop expertise in their area of interest

The department has one of the best infrastructure including domain-specific labs. The department has a good record of organizing seminars, workshops, symposium and conferences in emerging technological areas. With an objective of developing core competence in the respective subject matter specializations and special interest groups for learning newer technologies.

The aim of the program is to expose the students with latest technologies and applications. This course enables the student to understand the concepts of programming techniques and technologies involved in advancement of computer technology.

The computing Center of department of Computing Science and Engineering supports 60 clients across the various laboratories with two HP servers & 120 desktops. The laboratories are installed with Ethernet LAN & 10 Mbps Internet link & a centrally managed teaching tool for assisting students in the laboratory sessions.

The Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering caters the most demanding professionals with cutting edge technology with its expertise faculty and fully equipped laboratories. The Department’s mission is to advance, evolve and enhance computer science and computing engineering fundaments to build the intellectual capital of our research and of our students. The B.E. in CSE at NIT is a broad and flexible degree program with the curriculum specifically designed to reflect the depth and breadth of Computer Science.

Our endeavor is to make the CSE Department of NIT an important resource center for the development of computing and IT Systems and applications. CSE department boasts a vibrant faculty. It has Database application lab, Algorithm lab, Web programming lab, Network lab, Computer Graphics & Visualization lab, System software and Compiler Design lab. This department focus to bring advanced electronics, Advanced DBMS, Mobile computing, Rich internet applications, ARM based system design, Grid computing, Programming language projects in the undergraduate curriculum.

The web has changed the way world looks at information. As an educational discipline, this department focuses on meeting the needs of users within an organizational and societal context through the selection, creation, application, integration and administration of computing technologies.

The B.E. in ISE at NIT offered by this department provides graduates with the skills and knowledge to take on appropriate professional positions upon graduation and grow into leadership positions or pursue graduate studies and research in the field. The program design is such that the graduate develops a practical understanding of the technology.
